Good day, what is the difference between sway intermediate, sway special, sway ordinary and nonsway in etabs frame type?

  1. Intermediate, ordinary, and special sway are only used to determine the type of seismic checks to perform. These options enforce reinforcement limits according to the selected category. For example if you select sway intermediate/special, ETABS will check for reinforcement limitations given in ACI chapter 21.

Special Sway Frame>SMRF (Special Moment Resisting Frame) which we have to choose for designing members in hazardous seismic zones. Accordingly we have to use Seismic Response Reduction Factor, R following design codes.

Intermediate Sway Frame>IMRF (Intermediate Moment Resisting Frame) which we have to choose for designing members in medium risky seismic zones. Accordingly we have to use Seismic Response Reduction Factor, R following design codes.

Ordinary Sway Frame>OMRF (Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame) which we have to choose for designing members in low risky seismic zones. Accordingly we have to use Seismic Response Reduction Factor, R following design codes.
